If your home’s heating system (boiler + Baseboard or Radiator):

  • The radiator emits Gurgling
  • Pipes making a banging or knocking sound
  • Heating becomes uneven or hot on one side and not hot on the other.
  • Insufficient heating temperature on the second and third floors
  • System circulation is not smooth

These are often due toAir trapped in the heating loop

Air will block the circulation of hot water, reduce boiler efficiency, increase noise, and even damage the circulation pump.

Chunfeng HVAC brings you an article todaySuper practical and super professional teaching on home heating bleeding air (bleeding air), to help you learn how to get your heating system back into quiet, smooth operation.

🛠️ 1. Why does air enter the heating system?

Common reasons include:

  • Insufficient pressure in the water supply system
  • Water leaks causing air to be sucked in
  • System is not fully vented after repair or component replacement
  • The exhaust valve is damaged if it has not been maintained for a long time.
  • The height of the pipelines on the second and third floors is too high and air is easily trapped.

Air trapped in the heating cycle can cause the heater to be tepid or noisy.

🔧 2. How to discharge the air from the heating system? (Professional version steps)

⚠️ Warning: There are dangers such as hot water and high pressure in the boiler system, so be careful when operating. If you are not familiar with it, it is recommended to contact Chunfeng HVAC technicians.

The following is the operation process in the video, organized by Chunfeng HVACA more professional and clearer teaching version

① Turn off the main power supply of the boiler

Whether it is the switch next to the boiler or the switch at the top of the stairs, the power must be completely turned off.

② Close the zone valves (Zone Valves) and isolate the circuit

Typical residences include:

  • First floor circuit
  • Second floor (or third floor) loop
  • Backup circuit (may not be used)

To remove air, you mustDo it circuit by circuit

Steps:

  1. Close all zone valves that are not in operation
  2. Keep the valve in the area to be vented closed for later use

③ Install the garden hose to the drain valve (Drain Valve)

  • Use a long hose to connect the drain valve
  • Guide hose to outdoors or floor drain
  • Use pliers to secure to ensure watertight

④ Open the zone valve (switch to manual position)

Zone valves generally come in two modes:

  • Auto
  • Manual

Set the zone valve to Manual, allowing hot water to pass freely through the circuit.

⑤ Open the boiler fill valve (Fill Valve) for flushing

Here are the key steps:

When you open the refill valve, the pressure of the tap water will:

➡️Push fresh water into the system
➡️ Push the old water and air away from the hose end

Up to the hose end:

  • The flow of water remains stable
  • No air bubbles
  • No choppy sound

This means that the circuit has been purged of air.

⑥ Note: The water discharged from the boiler may be very hot!

The water temperature may suddenly become hot (from the boiler cycle) during the air removal period.
Be sure to avoid burns.

⑦ Repeat the above steps to arrange the second area

  1. Close current zone valve
  2. Turn zone valve back Auto
  3. Move the hose to a drainage point in another area
  4. Repeat air removal process

For each floor (especially the third floor):

  • Sometimes there's not enough pressure
  • Need to be lifted gently speeder valve
  • Provides extra pressure to force air out

⑧ Remove the hose after completing the exhaust

It is recommended to prepare a small bucket to catch any remaining water in the hose.

After removing the hose:

  • open all valves
  • Restore heating system to full cycle
  • Finally turn the boiler back on

The system can resume normal operation.

🔥 3. What heating problems can exhaust air solve?

✔ Heater grunting & knocking sounds
✔ The first floor is hot, the second floor is not hot
✔ Heating in some rooms not working
✔ The radiator is partly hot and partly cold
✔ Low boiler cycle efficiency

Exhaust air is the heating seasonOne of the most important maintenance

🧰 4. When is it necessary to find a professional technician?

It is recommended to contact Chunfeng Cooling and Warming immediately in the following situations:

❌ The water replenishment valve cannot be pressurized
❌ Hear the boiling sound inside the boiler
❌ There is water leakage or pressure drop
❌ The zone valve cannot be switched
❌ Water leakage causes air to continuously enter the system
❌ After exhausting the air, the heating on the second floor is still not hot.
❌Old boilers are more than 15 years old

The boiler system involves high temperature, high pressure, gas, safety valve and other components, and professional operation is safer and more efficient.
